Dozens of ships are waiting at the port as operations at the terminal continue to be blocked.

Ports and terminals in South China, including Yantian, Shekou and Nansha, are facing more and more delays, congestion and container availability problems.

Affected by the epidemic, the operation speed has slowed down. In the week of May 30, container stay in Yantian was increased to eight days. Project 44 reported that as of June 7, the average length of stay was 18 to 21 days.

From port congestion, equipment shortage, blank sailings to high freight, the global container transportation problem has plagued shippers, freight forwarders and carriers for more than a year. The challenge of Yantian is the latest example of the global container shipping problem.

In view of the capacity and timeliness of maritime transport, many importers have turned to air transport, despite the limited space for air cargo.

Maersk said in a recent consultation report that with the implementation of epidemic control measures in Shenzhen, where Yantian port and Shekou port are located, and Guangzhou, where Nansha port is located, vessels are expected to be delayed for 15 days.

Dozens of ships are waiting at the port as operations at the terminal continue to be blocked.

As of Wednesday, Marine Traffic showed that there were 26 vessels at the port, and there will be congestion at the destination port as Yantian and southern China ports resume normal operation.

Supply chain chaos is impacting port throughput. Supply side disruptions, including port congestion in South China caused by the epidemic, are affecting China's export capacity; Analysts expect freight rates to soar further.
