Days of heavy rain have brought severe flooding to parts of central and western Europe, affecting countries including Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Under the influence of depression, heavy rain in many parts of Germany has caused floods, especially in the western German Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhineland-Westphalia, which has caused large-scale delays and disruption of railway traffic in North Rhineland-Palatinate, Rhineland-Westphalia and their adjacent areas. Floods in western Germany have killed at least 58 people, left dozens missing and forced thousands to evacuate. German media said it was a "once-in-a-century" flood.

Road, rail and river services in many parts of western Germany have been disrupted. More than 160,000 people are without power, according to the German electricity ministry.

Twelve provinces in eastern France have entered the orange alert state. In Belgium, the rapidly swelling river Wesdel, the city of Liege told residents of potential disaster areas to evacuate and troops were deployed in four of the country's 10 provinces.
