Release time:2021-09-24 14:08:29| Browse times:

According to Hong Kong media reports, the captain of a bulk carrier "Thor Monadic" arriving in Hong Kong from Indonesia was suspected of providing false information when applying for the "Freedom and Disease-free Pass" to the Hong Kong Department of Health.

It is understood that after the ship arrived in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Department of Health received a number of crew members reporting the ship’s captain for false information. The Hong Kong police immediately boarded the "Thor Monadic" ship with staff from the local Department of Health to investigate. Through investigation, it was found that many crew members had fever, cough, and difficulty breathing when the ship did not enter Hong Kong waters.

After testing, 15 of the 23 crew members tested positive for the new coronavirus. All confirmed crew members have been sent to hospital for isolation and treatment, while the remaining crew members have stayed on board for isolation.

The Hong Kong police stated that they had reason to believe that the captain of the ship deliberately provided wrong data with the knowledge. Ekarat Timwatthana was accused of fraud and the Hong Kong police immediately boarded the ship and arrested him.

After the hearing, the local court approved Ekarat Timwatthana to be released on cash bail of HK$10,000, and he was not allowed to leave Hong Kong during the period. In addition, he must surrender all travel documents, report to the Hong Kong Police Station 3 times a week, and report his current address at the same time.
